Spartan Race Giveaway!

You guys know I’m always up for a challenge.  I have yet to try any of the obstacle course races that are out there, but I definitely plan on doing some this year.  I haven’t really decided which ones but I’m sure that I’ll be able to find some for the spring and summer.

I was contacted by the people at Spartan Race to share some information about their races.  There are races all over the country including the Spartan Race Special Ops Tampa race on February 15 at Raymond James Stadium.  This is one that I may try out this year, but I’m afraid that it could be a bit beyond my abilities.   I guess I won’t know until I try!

Have you seen this?  It’s a 4 mile course (“give or take”) with mud and some amazing and challenging obstacles created by Special Ops Forces.  There are mud, fire, water, barbed wire (!) and “Hell on Earth” (!?!).  The creators of the race have the goal of taking you out of your comfort zone.  I’m pretty sure that barbed wire would take me out of my comfort zone.

One of perks of the Spartan Race is that there is no time limit.  I wouldn’t be afraid of not being able to run fast enough, but I would be afraid of some of the obstacles.  Quite honestly, if there was a wall I need to climb over, it may take me a while (and a boost) to get over it.  I’m a strong swimmer, but if you are a non-swimmer, and the course includes a water obstacle that you need to swim in (if its too deep to walk through), you have the alternative of doing a set of burpees.  The set of burpees actually apply to any obstacle that you attempt but cannot complete.  (Which is why I would definitely figure out a way to get over any wall!)

Here’s the exciting part!  The people at Spartan Race have given me one free entry to give to my readers.  This code can be used for any of the 2014 races.  Enter by Rafflecopter below.  The signups for the free race will be open until Sunday (January 26) at midnight.  If you can’t wait for the raffle, feel free to use this link to get 15% off any 2014 Spartan Race.

  1. My most challenging race was the Costume Half Marathon in San Diego last year. SOOOOOO HOT AND HUMID! They actually moved the starting time UP by an hour to try to avoid the heat, but it didn't help. Finished it, but wasn't pretty!

  2. My most challenging race was the WDW marathon! It was my first marathon and it went worse than any of my training runs, but I did and I'll do it again!

  4. This may violate Directive #1: No Injuries, but I'm willing to give it a try. My biggest challenge so far was the Dopey Challenge but I'm thinking this may take the cake!

  5. My most challenging race ever was a Sea Isle City 13 mile beach run thirty years ago. I'm hoping to complete a half marathon by the end of 2014! And would love to do the PA Sprint in July with my daughter.

I ran the Primal Mud Run a couple years ago and I was sore for days. Haven't been that sore since.

I did the spartan beast in Vermont last year. Took 9 hours but I finished. Probably won't ever take on anything that tough again

  8. I ran in the Spartan World Championships last year and was not able to finish due to injury. First ever race I never finished. Spent 7 hours on the mountain. I'd like to get back there to finish what I started.

  9. My first half marathon was so hard because I didn't train enough. I had bronchitis for a few weeks just before and didn't know what to expect. When I crossed the finish line I was so proud that I finished that distance and officially caught the racing bug!

  10. My most challenging race so far was when I did the Surf City 10 miler. Half way through the race, my knee just gave out. It was horrible, but I was determined to finish. I watched my time go to crap, I slowed down to a crawl, my husband begging me to just let us get swept, but I refused. I finished the race, and spent the next few days at the doctors office. 1 month after physical therapy, I PR'd my half marathon! What does not kill us, makes us stronger!

My most challenging race was the LA marathon. I had trained and run a half marathon before it, but there is something to be said for 26.2. It is just a whole other level of pain!

  12. My most challenging event so far has been the GORUCK Challenge. It was a 12.5 hour event and we trekked 19+ miles with ruck sacks on our backs. It was brutal.

As of right now, I would say half marathon. Tough Mudder wasn't as challenging as I thought it would be.
